Upcoming Workshop in my own Studio
clay sculpture, human head, bird beak

I created this during our last workshop on hybrids

I am so excited for a workshop coming up in two weeks!  I am having a small class in my own studio on April 12 and 13th.  You can read the workshop description here.  I live out in the rural part of Johns Island (just outside of Charleston, SC) and spring is my absolute favorite time of the year out here!  A few already-talented ladies are coming out for a clay weekend.  We are going to be experimenting with sculpture forms – whatever they want to make – and I am going to show them how to coil-build and solid-core build the clay.    The nice thing about these little classes is the synergy that happens and the sharing.  I love the quiet conversations and the input from everyone that makes the experience so nice.  I do have a layout of projects for the ladies to do, but if they have special projects/forms they want to try, well then, they can absolutely work on those.  It’s going to be fun and relaxing, without having to stress about creating the “perfect” piece.  If anyone is interested, I have room for just one more student!  My studio isn’t huge, but it’s just right for a small class of creative people.

I love taking workshops, and I have found that I love giving them too.  Especially ones that can be so relaxed and in my own studio.  People will see my kids and my dogs and get a glimpse into my life out here 🙂  I think one of the best things about workshops is the ability to FOCUS on something for a whole weekend.  At home, there’s always laundry or dishes to do, but when you are at a workshop, you get a huge window of time to just focus and learn the material.  For a busy mom like myself, that is a huge gift!  What about you guys – what is your favorite thing about taking workshops??  Is it the synergy?  The challenge of new material?  Meeting the other artists?  Let me know!

I always learn so much at workshops and find myself thinking outside the box in other locations. I just saw this post now and too late to arrange to come. Will you have another workshop in the future? can you please put me on your mailing list as I’d love to take a workshop with you, thanks.

Linda, I would have LOVED to have had you in the class!! That would have been fun to compare clay notes 🙂 I think my next workshop with be at The Bascom in Highlands, NC in September. If you have never been to The Bascom, it is an awesome place. Have a great weekend!

Kelley, I’ll check the dates, I may be in NH and Canada then but hopefully I’ll be back. I see bascum is only about an hour and a half’s drive from my home, so I’ve got my fingers crossed that I’ll be able to attend, thanks so much.
