Update on my Work In Progress
Before I went on my vacation, I posted a quick blurb on my Work In Progress.  Well today (Friday) I finally got to work in the studio.  I actually had to hire a babysitter so that I could get a decent amount of work done.  Being gone for 10 days, and then losing a few days before and after – that’s two weeks of no work!  And with my hubby being out of town now, it’s all Mommy Mommy Mommy right now.  Thus the babysitter!

But I had a great session in the studio today.  This piece is being coil-built, although I would have preferred to do parts of it solid, then hollow it out.  But considering how I’ve had to work on this piece a coil-here-a-coil-there whenever I had time, coil-building was the only way to go.

Here is a photo from this morning, trying to get a little work done, but being interrupted by a cute little munchkin:

I had a visitor in the studio

And then I was able to get a little more work done when the babysitter took the girls to the nearby pool:

still a ways to go

still a ways to go

Then I took a break for some exercise and to let the clay dry a bit.  It was so sticky with the humidity….

And the day ended with the pic you see up top!  She still has a long way to go; everything from finishing the form to detailing the surface.  I may even redo those abs – not sure I want her to have such a 6-pack 🙂

Current sculpture size is 49″.  Still more to go!

All in all, a super great day!

      Laura –
I’m having fun with this sculpture – but the scale of it is a bit daunting when you only have a little time to work on it here or there. Feels like I will never be done! But I’m going to keep plugging along; I’m not going to abandon this one! I am loving her and learning and thinking about new ideas already! 🙂
