Working on Larger Sculptures These Days

HI there!  I’ve been ever so slowly working on a big sculpture – much bigger than I’ve ever done.  It’s not the tallest piece I’ve ever done, but it’s certainly the largest head I’ve ever built!  I think all this was a reaction to the push to make small stuff for the holidays – something I’ve always struggled against.  I tease that I’m allergic to making small things.  I think working large presents physical challenges that I enjoy.  The problem solving keeps my brain moving and I don’t get bored.  Besides, I like working on a scale where I can get my fingers and tools into the details easily, without too much eye strain!

So anyway, I’ve been working on this big head.  If you follow me on other social media, you’ve seen this head already 🙂 I’ve tried to include some other images that you may not have seen already.  It’s kind of fun to see the process documented.  Now I’ll have to get photos of trying to get that sucker into the kiln….

Thanks! My studio mate took the better photos with her new iPhone. I still have an old one, but obviously the camera is better on the newer ones! But thanks – I’m having so much fun with this piece, but now I am ready to start reassembling and finishing this piece up!
